Movie Review: Pineapple Express

中文版
Rating: Poison of choice x 3

One Line Synopsis: Bros over Hoes

Brief Writeup: Seth Rogen and James Franco play two pot heads that deliver non-stop funny dialog that real people would imaginably say (my friend Ron talks like that all day, and he isn't even high). Unlike the humor of Will Ferrell which premise you are hit over the head with long after it's funny (okay, I get it, he's an imbecile and an elf to boot), this stuff just flows.

Seth is Dale Denton, a process server by day and pot head by day as well. He ends up on the lamb with his weed dealer Saul (played by James Franco) after witnessing a murder. In actuality, Dale really plays the straight man to Saul's drifting mind and the two just have explosive chemistry. A hidden gem is the performance of Danny McBride who plays a drug dealer looking out for numero uno.

The plot is nothing special but it almost doesn't matter what the situation is cause it reminds you of the effortless fun that you have with your real friends when you are all in the element (hint: they're not the ones whose jokes you laugh at because that's the polite thing to do *HA HA*).

Hot Pot!!!!

Hot Pot is one thing you can't miss in the Fall season. There is no meal like Hot Pot.
Today we had our hot pot premier for 2009. Beef, Veggies, and Tofu are the MUST have items on our list.

Aloe is definitely a bonus.

Have you had your hot pot for year 2009 yet?

Car Down!!

Sunday night the cold was down to minus fifteen Celsius out there. We didn’t know what had driven us, but we decided to go out for dinner which we haven’t been doing much since we moved to Vermont. Without looking up for the address, we were able to reach the Japanese restaurant we had in mind with no problem; this is a nice thing about living in a small town.

Finishing dinner, we walked back to our car under this unbearable severe coldness, in less than three minutes, we got into our car, and started the engine.

Nothing happened.

I thought: did the car engine just get stolen? Ian always said there is no way anyone would be interested in stealing parts from this cars cause the car was quite beat up. Ian tried switching the light on in the car and it did work, so he tried the ignition a couple more times. Even though we doubted that the problem had to do with the battery, we asked for help and a Good Samaritan gave our car a boost.

Still Nothing.

We gave up and called a cab instead. So I got to enjoy my first cab ride experience in Vermont.

Ian called the tow truck yesterday morning; I hope the car can get through this time as it was diagnosed with old age and probably would not last long.

Movie Review: The Happening

We rented and watched this movie last months and it was so bad that Ian can't help but wrote the below comments:
Rating: Sub-prime mortgage x 5

One Line Synopsis: Nothing Happens

Brief Writeup: M. Night single-handedly triumphs over the talents of Mark Walhberg (The Departed) and the beautiful Zoey Deschanel (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) to make a horrendous movie and probably wasted a bazillion bucks in the process. The mystery of how plants are killing humans is used as a vehicle to deliver stylistic scenes of low brow gore and mayhem. This is a classic example of style over substance. The biggest mystery to me is how a movie with no plot can yield such an interesting trailer that tempted us to rent the movie in the first place. The boring Elliot played by Walhberg displays none of the bravado and flow that the actor is so well known for. In fact, poor Elliot seems a little slow on the uptake (Plants bad...No go near plants). If he is indeed the world's last hope for survival, then we are truly, hopelessly, domed.

Christmas Tree

My sister and I used to have this fantasy for Christmas: a Christmas tree with twinkling light bulbs and glittery ornaments on it, with different size of gifts spread under the tree. However, my sister and I have been living apart for a long long time since we graduated from University. This year.... I should say last year, Christmas 2008, my sister came to Toronto for a visit and we finally got to celebrate Christmas 2008 together, so we decided to get our first Christmas tree and made it a real one.

Holiday is Over, New Year is Here!!

What a blast!! The last two weeks in Toronto were just crazily busy spending time with family and friends. We tried our best to meet everyone and we exhausted ourselves pretty much everyday. All of a sudden, 2008 said goodbye without us even noticing it; and we are now here in 2009.
